About Us
Welcome to Solar Power at Home's About Us page.
Mostly it's me, Deb, that builds and tends this site but my husband, Captain Joe is a curious onlooker and my most enthusiastic cheerleader.
Both Joe and I were born and raised in Canada, Alberta actually.
We have one child, a daughter, who is largely responsible for the websites I have created.
To round things out
we also have 2 boisterous grandsons who love to camp with us or just come and spend the weekend at Gramma and Grampa's. A large assortment of beloved relatives and friends complete our Canadian circle.
In 2000 we sold the farm and planned a life upon the sea. We dabbled in organic farming on our acreage while I worked as an EMT and taught first aid and CPR classes at a training center.
All the time we worked we were dreaming of our sailboat . While we dreamed we took classes and learned to sail in preparation for our new adventure.
After a few years we sold our acreage and made some major adjustments to our life, rented a suitable place to spend our summers and began to seriously look for our boat. It wasn't long 'til "Pacific Jade" stole our hearts and the deal was done in a remarkably short period of time.
It's cold in Canada eh?
In the winters we live aboard our 41 foot sailboat in Mexico. During that time we depend largely on solar power to provide some of the comforts of home while in some very remote places.
Canadian summers are nice though.
Summer months we spend in Canada visiting and camping and sharing experiences with our favourite Canadians. And, oh yeah, we work
I recently retired from my job as an EMT but still teach First Aid and CPR classes, and now I grow websites.
Joe is welcomed back every spring as a heavy equipment operator for the county.
Semi retirement is better than no retirement at all,but what we really need is a job we can take anywhere. Websites fall into that category. A paying job that you can do from anywhere there's internet access.
I
blog our sailing story while we're gone and happened to mention the solar panels a couple of times.
I was surprised to find a handful of my comments came from people who were searching for solar information. They said encouraging things and set my mind in the solar direction. That's where this site came from.
Currently I'm working on my next website and planning for our next winter aboard Pacific Jade.
That's just a little About Us and how we got to this place.
