University of Toronto researchers have revealed a new Spray On Solar technology that will change the horizon of Solar Power.
Nanotechnology and solar technology have joined to produce quantum dots (micro solar panels) that can be suspended in a plastic solution. The solution can then be applied to almost any surface via a spray can or brush and can even be woven into fabrics.
Your future clothes could power your cellphone, ipod, etc. Vehicles could charge their own battery systems. The possibilities are endless.
But the Big News is!
The nanoparticles are infrared sensitive.
Up til now we have only been able to collect and use half of the sun's power.
Sun light is only the visible half of the sun's energy. Infrared rays are the other half.
The infrared portion of the energy is available on cloudy days and even during some dark hours and in areas such as Canada's northern half where the solar potential up til now
has been limited.
Now the sun doesn't even have to be shining for solar power to be employed.
With a little tweaking, researchers believe this technology will be capable of harvesting 30% of the infrared spectrum. This opposed to the 6% possible now.
Nanoparticles just may propel solar to it's rightful place on the energy podium.
Imagine the possibilities. Boats, RV's, garages, clothing, vehicles, tents....
Yes, the future of solar energy is looking very bright indeed.
